Just Auto Insurance's
ScoreSafe

We use six main aspects to judge driver safety, which combine to produce both a driver safety score and ultimately our per mile quote. Every driver under Just Auto Insurance’s coverage has a unique ScoreSafe, and this drives their per mile insurance premium. Some aspects of ScoreSafe are weighted more heavily than others, but they all play a vital role in providing the most accurate way of analyzing a driver’s safety on the road.

Below are the six principles of the
ScoreSafe

Road Conditions

We all know that different weather conditions affect the way we drive. Sometimes it’s so rainy, foggy or even snowing so heavily that the way you drive needs to change and adapt to the situation. We look at all the elements of road conditions in play to produce an accurate and risk-reflective score for drivers. We’ll also look at other factors such as whether you use the roads during these conditions or whether you defer journeys.

The number of miles driven versus the time of day that these miles are driven also play a substantial part in determining a driver’s accident propensity. For example, based on historical data, a driver is eight times more likely to get into an accident between the hours of 12am and 3am versus any other time of the day.

Just Auto Insurance’s ScoreSafe looks at all elements of road condition and driver preference to produce an accurate score for you as an individual.

Cornering

Unsafe cornering can disrupt a vehicle’s stability, safety systems, and limit driver reaction time.  Using smartphone sensors and GPS data, Just Auto Insurance’s software records your cornering habits, including the moments before, during, and after a corner.

ScoreSafe uses a proprietary model to rate each corner driven, and we use this to create a Cornering score for each driver and each trip.

Braking and Accelerating

It goes without saying but drivers who brake and accelerate at an unsafe rate not only show signs of aggressive driving habits, they also risk losing control of their vehicle, increasing their accident propensity.

Our technology tracks the change in speed (per second) between two consecutive driving segments and places each segment into one of three categories: Safe, Firm, or Harsh. Each driving segment is appropriately weighted, and a ScoreSafe rate individually applied; the more Safe driving segments a driver accrues, the better a driver’s ScoreSafe. Simple.

Speeding

Did you know that in the United States, over 100,000 speeding tickets are given to drivers every day? But, despite these measures, speeding still accounts for one third of all car accidents. Crazy huh?

Our technology alerts drivers when they’re speeding to help you achieve a lower auto insurance premium by reduce your speed. Drive safe? It’ll be reflected in your Scoresafe.

Focus

The number one cause of car accidents in the United States is distracted driving. Just 10 seconds of checking your smartphone equates to driving one fifth of a mile without looking at the road!

We reward drivers for paying attention to the road, so not checking your phone while driving results in a better ScoreSafe.

Junctions

Junctions. They are everywhere. Accidents at junctions are the largest single cause of serious injuries on the road, accounting for one third of all road injuries. In fact, in 2018, the Federal Highway Administration reported that over 40% of all accidents nation-wide occurred at intersections.

We take this significant data into account, and reward our drivers for taking safer driving routes. The less junctions a driver passes during their drive, the better ScoreSafe they will earn, and the more money they will save!
